Uniform Distribution in the Nail Plate

The active ingredient in PenlacĀ® is a proven antifungal

  • Ciclopirox demonstrates fungicidal and fungistatic activity in vitro[1,5-8]
  • Ciclopirox is effective against dermatophytes across multiple species[1,5-8]*

Penlac® delivers a high concentration of ciclopirox at the site of infection[4]

Adapted from Bohn and Kraemer.[4]

*Penlac® is indicated as topical treatment in immunocompetent patients with mild to moderate onychomycosis of fingernails and toenails without lunula involvement, due to Trichophyton rubrum.[1]

Distribution of ciclopirox in nail layers over time[4]

  • In one study, ciclopirox was uniformly distributed in all layers of the nail after only 7 days of application[4]
  • After application times of 7 to 14 days, a high level of biological activity was demonstrated[4]

Adapted from Bohn and Kraemer.[4]

From studies involving healthy subjects, penetration of ciclopirox through the nails was investigated. Nail samples were obtained and ciclopirox concentrations in the nail were determined by microbiologic assay.

The clinical relevance of these findings is unknown.[4]

Penlac® is indicated in immunocompetent patients with mild to moderate onychomycosis without lunula involvement due to Trichophyton rubrum.
